SAY HELLO TO OUR LATEST TENANT

We're delighted to reveal that the first of our Cedar Court tenants to officially open their doors will be Kitchen Sink. As an ‘occasional art gallery’, this unique concept will be run by passionate artist Angharad Jefferson and aims to make art as accessible as possible for the local community. To get an insight into the whole idea we caught up with Angharad:

Can you briefly introduce the concept and give visitors an idea of what to expect?

First of all, Fun! The concept is all about making art as accessible as possible for the community and having a bit of fun with it along the way. With what we have planned I hope to show people, instead of just saying, that life can frequently change, throwing you many highs and lows, and that nobody is exempt from this. People should expect a welcoming environment that is different with each exhibition - if these can demonstrate that it is possible to grow through the tough times, then I’ll be happy.

Any background on what led you to this idea and why you’ve chosen this location?

There’s nothing here like this and I can’t believe why! The area is exactly what I was looking for, the community is so diverse, and you can feel just how passionate everyone here is about their surroundings. The iconic Cedar blocks amplify this, making it the perfect environment.

How do you believe this will benefit the community?

Ultimately, I would love for the space to become a hub for the community, and I can see this happening already with the recent passing interest as we approach opening night. If we can strengthen that togetherness already present in the local area, then I’ll be absolutely delighted.

Details of opening night/any future events?

The opening of our very first exhibition, which is titled ‘Messages’, will be on 27th October from 16:00-20:00. Following this our doors will remain open from 10:00-18:00 every day for two weeks. Going forward, different collaborations will ensure that the whole uniqueness of this concept remains ever present, meaning no two visit is the same.

What are your main aims/goals for the future?

Initially this is a three-year project. My hope is that we will have ultimately created a body of work which proves this type of concept is sustainable and is a viable way for artists to portray their message in a way that positively impacts the local community.

Kitchen Sink is located at 104B - Cedar Court (Torridon Court), Glasgow, G20 7NW. For all their latest info you can visit their Facebook page here.
